Man pronounced dead after being found in sewage pit

The police added it qualified the incident a suspected "work accident," in which the man, a worker on site, had fallen into the pit.

Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics pronounced a 55-year-old man dead on Monday after he had been found in a sewage pit in Mazkeret Batya in central Israel, MDA said.

Initially, the Fire and Rescue Authority said firefighters were operating to extract an unconscious man who had been stuck in a sewage pit.

The authority also noted that the oxygen levels in the pit were low and that the man was found four meters deep. 

Police investigating

The Police said it was investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The police added that it qualified the incident a suspected "work accident," in which the man, a worker on site, had fallen into the pit.

In July, a similar incident was reported in which a man in his 50s was pronounced dead after being found in a sewer pit in Modi'in Ilit
