Turkey has reported an outbreak of the highly contagious H5N1 strain of avian influenza on a poultry farm for the first time in over a year, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) said on Monday.
The disease, commonly called bird flu, killed 211 poultry out of a flock of some 790,000 at a commercial farm in the province of Konya, the Paris-based WOAH said, citing a report from the Turkish authorities. The outbreak is part of a seasonal upturn in bird flu in Europe and the Middle East.
