Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-New York) will be the next US ambassador to the UN, US President-elect Donald Trump said.
“I am honored to nominate chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my cabinet as US ambassador to the United Nations,” he told The New York Post on Sunday. “Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter.”
In response, Stefanik said: “I am truly honored to earn President Trump’s nomination to serve in his cabinet as US ambassador to the United Nations.”
Just hours before the report, she posted on X/Twitter: “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are choosing to ignore the law and waiving mandatory terrorism sanctions on the Palestinian government.
“Thankfully, the Biden-Harris administration’s rewarding of terrorists at the expense of our great ally Israel is coming to an end,” she wrote.
Stefanik is most known for taking part in a high-profile congressional hearing last December with the presidents of Harvard, MIT, and the University of Pennsylvania to address antisemitism on campus and overall feelings of lack of safety for Jewish students. The Biden-Harris Administration knows that the Palestinian Authority is continuing their “pay-to-slay” policies and lining the pockets of terrorists who kill Israelis. During the hearing, she asked all three presidents directly if “calling for the genocide of Jews” was against their respective universities’ codes of conduct. All three presidents answered that it depended on the context of the situation.
In May, at a meeting of the Knesset Caucus for Jewish and Pro-Israel Students on Campuses Around the World, Stefanik said: “There is no excuse for an American president to block aid to Israel.”
She has been openly supportive of Israel and the fight against Hamas and antisemitism.
“It’s why I have sponsored, or backed, every measure to aid Israel that has come before the US Congress – every single one,” she said.
Stefanik said she has been for years “a leading proponent and partner to President Trump in his historic support for Israeli independence and security.”
The fight against Hamas was one of “good versus evil, civilization versus barbarism, and humanity versus depravity,” she said, adding that the majority of American citizens stood behind Israel.
Criticism of Biden
Stefanik has been highly critical of the Biden administration’s foreign policies.
In April, during a House Republican leadership press conference, she outlined the party’s points of contention with Biden’s handling of Russia, Iran, China, and Afghanistan.
“Under Joe Biden, the world is less safe,” she said. “His desperate policy of appeasement has left our nation and our allies vulnerable to attack.”
Stefanik said America’s enemies did not fear recourse because of Biden, and the US needed to return to Trump’s “peace through strength” policies, which House Republicans proudly support.
Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon congratulated Stefanik on her new role.
“At a time when hate and lies fill the halls of the UN, your unwavering moral clarity is needed more than ever,” he said. “Wishing you success in standing firm for truth and justice.”
