IDF to provide families of soldiers killed on Oct. 7 with recordings of slain loved ones

The IDF noted that families will be allowed to hear the recordings as part of IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi's policy to ensure transparency with bereaved families.

All bereaved families of IDF soldiers who were killed on October 7, 2023, will be allowed to hear the final recordings of their fallen family members; the military reported IDF Personnel Directorate head, Maj.-Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa, as instructed on Wednesday. 

The IDF noted that families will be allowed to hear the recordings as part of IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi's policy to ensure transparency with bereaved families.

Further, it will be done in accordance with the progress of the ongoing investigations into the events of the October 7 attacks, and any request to provide the bereaved families with the recordings will undergo an approval process.

"The IDF is committed to the bereaved families and regrets the way matters have been handled thus far," the military stated. "The IDF will continue to support them and act transparently and attentively toward them."

Families of Nahal Oz observers listen to new IDF recordings for first time

On Monday, Maj.-Gen. Kalifa met with the families of the observer soldiers who were killed at the Nahal Oz base on October 7, 2023. During the meeting, the families listened to recordings taken from that morning.

On Tuesday, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) released new recordings of the rescues of Ori Megidish in October 2023 and Fernando Marman and Luis Har in February 2024.
