Austrian conservative Stocker sworn in as head of coalition government

Christian Stocker, leader of the conservative Austrian People's Party (OVP), was sworn in as chancellor on Monday, heading the first three-party government since the aftermath of World War Two and keeping the far-right Freedom Party in opposition.

Stocker took the oath of office at a ceremony hosted by President Alexander Van der Bellen, with the rest of the cabinet due to follow. The OVP will head the interior and defence ministries while the Social Democrats will control finance and justice. The liberal Neos will run the foreign ministry.
