Shas spiritual leader and former chief rabbi Yitzhak Yosef's home synagogue was set ablaze early Sunday morning.
A rabbi added, “This will not divide us; no one will ever divide us. We are one nation. We have faced many challenges and will face more, but we will get through this by loving each other.”
An indictment is expected to be filed in the coming days by Jerusalem District police.
The police discovered images of Christian crosses, spray-painted onto the door of a house near the scene.
"We are looking into the likelihood of a fire being started deliberately," said a spokesperson for the French national gendarmerie, adding that no arrests had been made at this stage.
At least 10 fire and rescue teams were dispatched, with four firefighting aircraft in assistance.
The charges come only a day after three Ukrainian nationals were arrested for allegedly plotting parcel bombing in Germany on behalf of Russia.
The cause of the extensive fires, which have caused widespread damage to the Jerusalem Hills area, remains unclear.
