Israeli opposition head calls on Trump to join war against Iran

"In talks with international officials and in the international press, I repeatedly say - the US must join this battle. A nuclear Iran is a threat to the entire world, not just Israel,” Lapid said.

The US must join the battle against Iran, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid said on Wednesday.

“I trust [US] President [Donald] Trump to do what’s right for the US, but in talks with international officials and in the international press, I repeatedly say, ‘The US must join this battle.’ A nuclear Iran is a threat to the entire world, not just Israel,” Lapid said.

The opposition leader’s comments came a day after he met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a security update and were another example of the opposition’s full support of the attacks against Iran.

Another indicator was that the opposition announced on Wednesday that it would delay a parliamentary session scheduled next week called a “40 signatories’ debate,” which the prime minister must attend and during which opposition members usually level harsh criticism at the prime minister and the government.

All legislation not directly related to Iran must be removed from the Knesset agenda

The opposition also came to an agreement with the coalition at the beginning of the week to remove all legislation from the Knesset agenda that was not directly related to the new front against Iran.

In accordance with this agreement, the opposition’s Jewish parties removed a number of no-confidence motions scheduled for Monday.

However, the opposition’s two Arab parties, Hadash-Ta’al and Ra’am, refused to remove their no-confidence measures from the agenda and faced criticism from both the coalition and fellow opposition members.

In an interview with French broadcaster France24 later on Wednesday, Lapid said, “Netanyahu launched a justified war; he did the right thing. We didn’t declare war on Iran; Iran declared war on us decades ago. Our action is merely a response to a situation that has become increasingly dangerous for the entire world.”
