Yair Lapid is a Tel Aviv-born center-left Israeli politician. He is the founder and chairman of the Yesh Atid political party.
Lapid served as the alternate Prime Minister to Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister in a 2021 coalition government. He had also previously served as Finance Minister in Benjamin Netanyahu’s government from 2013-2014.
Yair Lapid began his public career as a journalist and TV presenter, before branching out into politics in 2012 with the formation of Yesh Atid.
"This brave step serves the security and safety of the entire free world. I hope it will lead to a better future for the Middle East," President Isaac Herzog said in a statment.
"In talks with international officials and in the international press, I repeatedly say - the US must join this battle. A nuclear Iran is a threat to the entire world, not just Israel,” Lapid said.

Despite public announcements that they would support the dispersal bill, haredi politicians were slightly more hesitant on Tuesday night as to whether they would follow through on their threat.
“Israel needs both scholars and soldiers, but how they determine the balance is not something I could or would weigh in on," Huckabee wrote on X.
"I hope and believe that the report that he is interfering in Israel’s internal politics and trying to help Netanyahu face the ultra-Orthodox in the evasion law crisis cannot be true," said Lapid.
A new poll reveals that Cohen would only receive four mandates, three of which would come from the Change Bloc.
