The capital city of Syria, Damascus is one of the great historic cities of the Middle East and is considered one of the oldest, if not the oldest, capital in the world with a history going back thousands of years.
It has a rich history, having been an important city to many empires throughout time, and countless ruling dynasties have called the city home.
At one point, Damascus was renowned as an important cultural and economic center in the Middle East and historic buildings dotted the city.
However, in recent years, the city has fallen into drastic decline and lost much of its historic splendor due to the Syrian Civil War and the conflict with ISIS.
Despite this, it still maintains an important role as the seat of power of the Syrian government.
"I instructed the IDF to act with force because the Damascus regime sent its army south of the capital and massacred the Druze," Netanyahu said.
The OPCW will hold an urgent meeting on Tuesday next week to discuss the situation and impact of the Israeli attacks.
No one in the convoy was injured, and it continued on its way, the people said, declining to give further details on the nationalities or number of those involved.
The footage was also recirculated across Israeli media, including public broadcaster, KAN News.
Earlier, Reuters reported that Syria's Druze have reached a ceasefire agreement with the Syrian government in Sweida that will take immediate effect.
The violence erupted after a wave of kidnappings, including the abduction of a Druze merchant on Friday on the highway linking Damascus to Sweida, witnesses said.
Syrian political figure Shadi Martini described his Knesset address as a 'once-in-a-century opportunity' and confirmed holding recent talks with Syria’s new president, Ahmed Al-Sharaa.
Syria’s state media noted, “during the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation were discussed, in addition to regional and international development."
"There is renewed hope for the Syrian people," UK FM David Lammy said during his visit to Damascus.
According to the report, three helicopters landed at the site, which once belonged to the Republican Guard Division under Bashar al-Assad's regime.
