The festival, which will include hundreds of new movies from around the world and from Israel, will run at the Jerusalem Cinematheque until July 27.
The festival was moved to August this year because the academic year was delayed due to the war. Many of the films will address issues related to the war and the October 7 attack that sparked it.
Geffen's film, The Event Horizon, was the only Israeli film accepted to the festival, which is the largest in Asia.
The series also stars Yousef “Joe” Sweid as a recently widowed therapist who treats patients at night, and Lucy Ayoub as his sister
"This film pulled us all in from the first few frames, and we felt that we were in skillful hands. It was fiercely executed and superbly performed," the jury said.
Tropicana, Tobi’s feature-film debut, stars Irit Sheleg, who appeared in the movie, Fill the Void, and the television series Sirens, as a cashier at a supermarket in the Negev.
While only one short film from Israel is competing at Cannes, Shenker, Rimmon and Tadmor have made sure that Israel has a presence at the world’s highest profile film festival this year.
