Three firefighters were injured during the event, as dozens of teams continued working with trucks and planes to control the fires as they spread northward towards Highway 1.
While being treated for smoke inhalation, the man admitted to intentionally starting the fire. He told authorities he had been held against his will since the age of 11.
The firefighters came down the building, donning Batman, Superman, and Spiderman costumes while the residents of the institutes cheered on.
The rider managed to extricate himself from the pit, but the horse remained stuck.
