Staff Sergeant (St.-Sgt.) Liam Hazi, 20, was killed during operational activity in Jenin in the West Bank on Thursday, the IDF announced.
St.-Sgt. Hazi was in the ‘Haruv’ Reconnaissance Battalion of the Kfir Brigade.
He was from Rosh Ha'ayin.
During the incident in which Hazi was killed, a soldier in the same battalion was wounded.
According to an initial investigation, the force from the Haruv Reconnaissance Battalion entered a building as part of the ongoing operation, Ynet reported.
The report added that terrorists hiding in one of the rooms of the building ambushed the soldiers and opened fire at close range. The terrorists reportedly managed to escape.
Wounded soldier evacuated for treatment
The soldier was evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment, and his family has been notified, the IDF said.
IDF Spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari addressed the incident on Thursday evening, extending his condolences and stating, "We continue to operate resolutely against terrorism everywhere, including in the West Bank. This evening, we also remember those who fell in battle on October 7 and the heavy price paid by IDF soldiers, both in active duty and reserves, throughout the war."
According to the IDF's tally, the death of St.-Sgt. Hazi raises the total of soldiers killed on or since October 7, 2023, to 842.
